ICT / Media @ MKK

Maraekakaho School is well resourced for ICT.

Each classroom has their own digital camera and interactive whiteboards. Senior classes house pods of laptop computers and we also have a pod of 6 Macbooks and 2 i-macs that are used for visual language and media studies. All laptop computers have wireless internet access and are connected to the school intranet.  These are used throughout the day to enhance learning.

Our latest additions are two IPADS and students enjoy a wide range of applications. Yet another way  to make our learning fun! Information at our fingertips!

Media @ MKK

Recently, a team of Year 7 & 8 students spent the day in tutorials at Ross Intermediate, Palmerston North, to learn how to build media projects using the latest version of imovie. This team will now share their new skills with  other students, and lead a school-wide media project.  The ripple effect in action!!

Every class will be involved in a collaborative media project in Term 2 & 3 of 2011, led by our media team of senior students. The children will plan their shots using storyboards and write their own scripts. They will learn how to combine visual and verbal features to communicate ideas with clarity and precision. It is also an excellent opportunity for students to develop important social and cooperative skills as they contribute as part of a team. Although the theme is still under wraps we can tell you that Maraekakaho students may well play a part in an All Blacks victory in the up and coming World Cup Rugby Final! Watch this space!

Every two weeks senior students take responsibility for producing a photographic record of the cool learning taking place in our school. They then compile and produce a slideshow of still shots to open our assembly. This is called "Slice of the Week" and it welcomes us into assembly every second Friday.

With five digital video cameras, external microphones, headphones and tripods we are able to produce our very own quality DVDs of important school events, as well as introduce media programs in our classrooms.

Young people are always highly motivated when given opportunities to communicate their learning using  visual media. Our teachers have been having fun up-skilling, learning how to create class blog pages. You can check these out by connecting up through our class pages on this website.  Our kids are delighted to be able to share their learning in an exciting new way and are hopeful to reach a wider audience.
